about

Captain Werner Hans and his crew set out on an expedition across the planet to retrieve a talisman fabled to hold the cure for an outbreak of disease that has plagued his species. After taking a hot air balloon across the seemingly endless expanse of jungles in South America, Werner and team arrive at the southern most tip of the continent. A quick stop at the local village market for supplies and they're off again. This time taking a prop plane over the thin stretch of water separating South America from Antarctica. They arrive just before the beginning of the winter season, barely dodging fierce snow storms that could have very easily exercised their mortality. One cold night stands between them and the talisman. In the distance the howls of sled dogs are heard. Bringing life and a feeling of familiarity to this otherwise desolate landscape. The next morning they suit up in cramp-ons and coats, ready to trek into the unknown. Only a few humans have ever made it to Lake Vostok. It holds secrets vital to the knowledge of the history of Earth, the survival of the Homo Sapiens, and has, perhaps, more in store for them than they could have ever anticipated. They meet little resistance on their journey across the land and repel down some four thousand meters using a system of trades, switching each person out as the anchor. One wrong move and they'd all plummet twenty-eight seconds to their death. After much time they arrive safely at the bottom. The underground region shimmers with icicles and a fuzzy layer of soft ice garnishing the walls and ground. They make their way to the far side of the lake, into the ice catacombs whose end holds the artifact they seek. As they approach, Werner and his crew can sense its powers getting closer. It feels like confusion. Bringing into the area an extradimensional energy not normally felt on any other part of the planet. After hours of walking they reach the end chamber. A massive spherical room with a bridge of ice extending out to the altar in the middle of it all. And atop the altar, a single glowing floating crystal witholding a force majeure. As Captain Werner approaches the altar, the bridge begins to fracture under his weight. He looks down and sees the perfectly preserved footsteps of previous explorers. The furthest few ending with a skidmark of a boot in the snow. He must be cautious. In the chamber, the echoes of ice falling and cracking become a symphony of noise. Disorientated, he steps closer, arriving at the magic object, abruptly reaching a hand out to the altar in order to hold himself steady. His feeling of security is quickly greeted by an inhuman roar that blasts through the air, originating from the depths of the catacombs behind them. Three more howls. An awakening. But of what? Before his next thought could finish, a massive quake rumbled the area, causing Werner to lose his footing, sliding towards the edge of the platform he stood upon seconds before. His crampons caught the ice buried an inch underneath the soft snow carpet and brought his close call with death to a halt. Another booming eruption, something is headed their way. Werner snatched the talisman, urging his crew to make their way back into the catacombs. Afraid that whatever was there would find them before they could get back to the surface.

All synth and drums tracked with a Korg Monotribe and Digitech DD3.
